From G1 to licensed
How it works

Get your G1
Pass the written knowledge test at a DriveTest centre. In Ontario you need a valid G1 before any in-car instruction.

Complete the program
The 30 online hours come first. Then a minimum of five in-vehicle lessons of 1.5 to 2 hours, recommended about a week apart.

Pass your road test
With the program complete you can take your G2 at 8 months instead of 12. Allan's car is available for a road test in London for $150.

Do I need my G1 before I book a lesson?
Yes. In Ontario you need a valid G1 licence before you can take in-car instruction.
How much does the BDE program cost?
$700 for the full 40-hour program, or bi-weekly instalments of $250 / $200. Private lessons are $75 for 1.5 hours, or $200 for a package of three. Every price includes tax.
Do I have to finish the online course before I drive?
Yes. The 20 hours of online course and 10 hours of online homework and assessment come first. In-vehicle training starts once all of it is complete — a minimum of five lessons of 1.5 to 2 hours each, recommended about a week apart.
How soon can I take my road test after the program?
Completing the full program lets you take your G2 road test after eight months instead of twelve.
Will this lower my insurance?
Once you have your G2 you receive an MTO-accredited certificate of completion, which helps toward lower insurance. How much depends on your insurer.
Can I use your car for the road test?
Yes. Using Allan's car for your road test is $150, tax included, when the test is in London.
